Pam Marshalla: Practical speech-language therapy techniques for therapists and parents.

Finding a Speech-Language Pathologist

Looking for a speech-language pathologist for your child?

Your child may be receiving speech-language therapy in school, and that is good. But you also may be seeking private therapy, or therapy in a special school. Pam usually recommends that parents do some calling around to find just the right person for their child. Most communities have a few speech-language pathologists who specialize in young children with severe speech and language delay/disorder. You will want to find that person.

Start with your school district, the local hospital, or any private clinic, and ask them who in the community is known for working with children like yours. Most speech-language pathologists are happy to refer parents to just the right person in the community.
